Meet Jon Hess

Certified Prosthetist & Orthotist | Founder

Jon Hess’s introduction to rehabilitation began at Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw, NY, where he worked as a Recreation Therapist. After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Recreation & Leisure Service Management from East Stroudsburg University, Jon joined Helen Hayes Hospital in 1991. With a lifelong background in sports and fitness, his early career as a therapist felt like a natural fit.

While working in the amputee unit, Jon discovered the field of Orthotics and Prosthetics (O&P)—a profession that combined his desire to help others, his technical skill, and his knowledge of human biomechanics. He went on to attend Northwestern University’s programs in Orthotics and Prosthetics, earning certification in orthotics in 2000 and certification in prosthetics in 2003.

Jon completed his residencies at The Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City and continued his work with Eschen P&O until 2006. In 2007, he joined Prosthetic & Orthotic Associates in Middletown, NY, serving as Assistant Clinical Director and Fabrication Manager until 2016. He later spent two years with Allcare O&P in New Jersey, before returning to the Hudson Valley to open his own practice—Prosthetic & Orthotic Designs, LLC—where he could continue serving the people of his community with the highest level of care and attention.

With more than three decades of experience, Jon has developed extensive expertise in advanced prosthetic technologies and custom orthotic solutions. He specializes in both upper and lower limb prosthetics, with hands-on experience fitting and fine-tuning microprocessor knees and high-activity prosthetic feet that restore mobility and confidence for active amputees.

When he’s not treating patients at Prosthetic & Orthotic Designs in Middletown, NY, Jon enjoys spending time with his wife, Carrie, and their two adult sons, Alex and Christian. Jon is also honored to be an inductee into the New York State Section 9 Track & Field Hall of Fame, alongside his teammates from the 1986 Washingtonville High School 4x800m relay team, recognized as both state and national champions in that event.
